AASC Meeting (3/7) Haiku

At the meeting today (3/7) we learned about the Japanese poetry called Haiku. We watched a fun video from Avatar the last airbender about Haiku (which is in the link below). Then wrote some ourselves, which is posted on here as well. It was really fun for those who were there but if you couldn't come don'te worry. We have plenty more fun activities planned for our meeting for the rest of this semester.

Traditional haiku consist of 17 on (also known as morae), in three phrases of 5, 7 and 5 on respectively.[4] Any one of the three phrases may end with the kireji.[5] Although haiku are often stated to have 17 syllables,[6] this is incorrect as syllables and on are not the same.

David’s Haiku
Green leaves in the wind
Twirling, dancing gracefully
It’s sad when they fall.

Dreams are illusions
More enjoyable than life
Separate from the truth.

Tyler’s Haiku
I am so tired
I am so tired indeed
I need to find bed

Kenrik’s Haiku
Avatar is pimp
Momo is my favorite
Zuko is bad-A

Birds fly high in sky
Fish swim in the deep abyss
I love scrumptious food

Jessica’s Haiku
I eat all good food
Cottage cheese is not real good
I don’t eat that food

Kyle’s Haiku
Avatar is cool
But Dragon Ball is better
Ka Ma Ha Ma Haaa!

Lindsey’s Haiku
I dislike haiku’s
They are very difficult
I am still hungry

M. Night Shamalan
Can’t make a movie about
Avatar. Fo’real

Megan’s Haiku
I am a student.
Utah State is the best school.
We are the Aggies.

David vs. Lindsey Haiku battle!
Lindsey:
David is a sap
His poetry is way bad
He needs to go home

David:
Lindsey is a Jerk
She is soulless and real mean
Go jump off a cliff

First meeting of 2012!

How great it was to see everyone (well the few regulars haha)
I hope everyone had fun. I know I sure did. And for those of you who missed I'll recap..

So we gather around the couch with a sleeping girl in the center. By the looks of her she could have been in a coma for all we knew haha. We talk and catch up while we wait for Krysta who is bringing the goods (doughnuts!) and Anne-claire who has our wonderful new shirt. Both are running very late however so we find ways to pass the time. We find that someones sexual preference is now a formality. And that Tyler's sexual preference is undeclared haha ;) We play a game called avatar that some people are really good at and some (like me and Lindsey getting out the first round every time) not so much. Then we play a crazy wild game of round the world ping pong. Even though we are the Asian club doesn't necessarily mean we have crazy Asian ping pong skills. This actually proves to be much more entertaining though. Kristi shows off her skills of hitting the ball with nearly every part of her body rather than the actual paddle and David improvises for the lack of table at times and uses the wall, ceiling and other players to keep the game moving. The game is immediately put on hold when Krysta arrives with the food. Doughnuts and milk all around and everyone is happy (people who are always hungry at our meeting, this might have been the time to come haha) After doughnuts and more chatting, the group gathers to play the ancient Asian club ritual of Ninja Destruction! Being a skilled ninja is what every club member must strive to be! We even recruit a few passersby into our game. So after a lot of hand slapping, stained movements, awkward moments, and lots of laughter our meeting comes to an end. For those of you who were not there you missed out. But we'll have many chances this semester to have more amazing meeting so be sure to be there. This semester is going to be great!
